Head west along the coast and take in our neighbouring villages of Hopeman and Burghead. The forested bay of Roseisle leads you to the pretty village of Findhorn with its world famous eco-community.
Turn inland to historic Forres, and follow the River Findhorn upstream to Logie Steading and Estate for destination shopping and stunning river walks. Return via Pluscarden Abbey and Califer Hill viewpoint.
the moray coast – Lossiemouth to burghead
From Lossiemouth, the Moray Coastal Trail takes you west along the B9040 past the lighthouse to Hopeman.
At Hopeman, there are three small sandy bays and a working harbour. Park in the East Beach car park and follow the path away from the village to see the row of colourful beach huts. Follow the coast further along to see the spectacular Clashach Cove, a wide bay where the sea has carved a natural tunnel through the sandstone. Be careful descending to the cave.
Leave Hopeman and continue along the main road. There is a great playpark for the children at Cummingston (take a small turning towards the sea), with toilets and a path down to the little beach, lined caves and rockpools.
Continuing further, you reach the ancient Pictish town of Burghead, famous for its annual ‘burning of the Clavie’ fire festival in January. On the promonotry is an old fort, with a visitor centre which you can in the summer. It’s a great place to look out for dolphins and whales!
